I wanted to talk about skincare a bit today because it is definitely a topic that ALL my clients ask about! I am going to go over what works for MY skin, but of course there are many different skin types, and I encourage everyone to research products, and figure out what works for you!
Before I go into the products, I want to say that a large part of a good skincare regime is nutrition. Its as simple as what you put into your body, will show on the outside. This past year I got married, moved, and started my own business, all of which are very exciting, but my skin went BANANAS! I experienced terrible adult acne, uneven tone, and dryness/flaking. It was very upsetting because I couldn't figure out how to get it under control! I tried literally every product that Sephora/Ulta/Blue Mercury offers, and nothing helped!! Finally, a friend of mine mentioned my diet, which I am normally pretty good about, but during all the craziness, I pretty much was living on caffeine, white sugar, white flour, and cheese! So I began to incorporate more water, greens, and vitamins in. I have a smoothie or a green juice every day, I try not to eat too much pizza, pasta, and bread, and I drink a ton of lemon water. Like magic, my acne went away, my tone brightened, and my oil was balanced.
Now, on to the products! These are all products that alleviated my issues during the past year. Like I mentioned above, I have combination skin, that is very sensitive, and prone to hormonal (chin) breakouts…..good times!
A common misconception for fighting breakouts is to remove all the oil on/in the skin, but actually, the opposite is true! Oil balances oil, crazy…I know! So, with that being said, I use a balm by One Love Organics (www.oneloveorganics.com) called Skin Savior to breakdown all my makeup at the end of the day. I love this line because it is paraben free, super gentle, cruelty free, and every product smells delish! After I take off my makeup with the balm, I wash with One Love Organics Easy Does It Foaming Cleanser. This is an incredibly mild, but thorough cleanser that really gets all the dirt and grime off, without stripping my skin.
Once my face is clean, I tone with Dr. Jart Dermaclear Micro Water. (www.sephora.com)This is a hydrogen based water that delivers a lot of oxygen to the skin, as well as brightens the tone. It is important to tone after you wash your face because it balances the pH of your skin. Often, after you cleanse, you skin runs more acidic, and you want it to be alkaline. This toner helps!
At night time, after I cleanse and tone, I moisturize with a mixture of Josie Maran Argan Oil (www.sephora.com) and Pure Vitamin E Oil. (CVS, Duane Reade, etc.!) As I mentioned, oil actually balances oil, so by applying the argan oil, i get a super soft, well moisturized face, with no breakouts. I add in a bit of Vitamin E around my eyes and mouth to combat any wrinkles or laugh lines. Vitamin E is possesses many reparative qualities, and is excellent for preventing wrinkles, and fading scarring/pigmentation.
If I am having a flare up on my chin, I ll use the Aveda Outer Peace Acne Pads. (www.aveda.com) These salicylic acid pads are very useful because you can spot treat with them. You don't have to experience dryness or flaking on your whole face! Also they are very strong, and usually work within 24 hours!
During the day, after I cleanse my face, I apply a bit of the Ole Henriksen Collagen Truth Serum (www.sephora.com) all over my face and neck. This is an excellent serum for boosting plumpness, and brightness in the skin! It uses a vitamin C extract, as well as collagen, and antioxidants to keep your skin smooth, and youthful. I then moisturize with Josie Maran Argan Moisture w/SPF47. (www.sephora.com) We all know the benefits of sunscreen at this point! It is SUPER important to protect yourself from UV rays. It is the number one factor in aging skin, besides cigarettes….and also skin cancer…..so, yes wear sunscreen!!! i prefer this moisturizer because it is very rich without making my skin an oil slick! It absorbs quickly, and evenly into my skin. As my last product, I prime my skin for makeup with Two Faced Hangover Rx Primer. (www.sephora.com) This is the HOLY GRAIL of primers! Made with coconut water, it fills your skin with hydration, and electrolytes. It creates a perfect, poreless, rich foundation to apply makeup on, and honestly a lot of days, I just wear this, no foundation!
So there you have my top, personal, skincare favorites! You only get one skin, so I think its important to invest in quality products that will care for and protect it!
