Hello Readers! I cannot believe 2015 is almost over…..this year was a big year for me in many ways, one way being that I made the conscious decision to no longer purchase any items that harm animals. Working in the beauty industry, this proved to be quite a daunting task! The area that i struggled with the most was haircare, including color. I am a creature of habit, so venturing away from many of my trusted brands was nerve-racking! I am pleased to say that i have found some truly amazing lines that deliver high standard results, without harming any swee,t animal friends!
So starting from the left, a stylist friend of mine recommended I try the Framesi Color Lover line of shampoos and conditioners. I fell in love immediately! What is so cool about this line is that it makes color safe shampoos for ALL different hair types. Typically, within a line of haircare, there is ONE "color" shampoo, however if someone has fine hair, the color shampoo might be too heavy for it. With in this line, they have a volume shampoo, a super thick moisture shampoo, a curl define shampoo, annnnd a smoothing shampoo! All are designed to prolong your color, they are vegan, sulfate free, paraben free, gluten free, and DEA free. I have switched the back bar in my salon to these shampoos/conditioners, as well as using it on myself!
Next up is the Pravana Nevo Full Volumizing Foam. A great volume mousse has always been a staple for me in the salon, and personally. I absolutely love the texture of this foam! It's super light, gives BIG volume, smells great, and a little goes a long way! I use this on almost very blowout I do. Plus, Pravana hair color is cruelty free! The whole line is really well done!
TIGI Bedhead Queen Bee dry shampoo is an absolute gem in my kit! You know when you find those products that make you think, "how did I ever live without you?" This is one of those! If I had to pick only one hair product to use for the rest of my life, it'd be dry shampoo! I have probably tried every one out there! What sets this one apart, aside from being cruelty free, is that it gives the most matte texture that I have ever seen. Two sprays of this, and all the oil vanishes from the roots. It is translucent, even on very dark hair, and it can definitely double as a working texture spray. Plus, it smells like sweet tarts! what else could you want in a hair product?!
EVO Shape Vixen, and Mister Fantastic Texture Spray are two recent purchases that instantly won my heart! Evo is a relatively new line that is committed to sustainability, gentle ingredients, and cruelty free products. The Shape Vixen is a really interesting product. It is a liquid that looks like a gel, but has a very creme like constancy. It can be used for smooth volume in a blowout, as a curl setting gel, for be achy waves with a diffuser…..its really versatile. The Mister Fantastic Texture Spray is a must have for anyone looking for a multi use, spray product! This guy acts as a detangler, a heat protectant, a beach spray, AND a volumizing spray. Literally, I can just bring this one product on set, and be set!
Lastly, who doesn't need a good, shiny, finishing oil?! The Paul Mitchell Marula Luxury Treatment is just that, luxurious! Marula oil is similar to argan oil, except that is actually has 50% more protective antioxidants than argan! This oil is cold pressed to ensure that none of the benefits are ruined in the process. This oil uses a time release technology that ensures that very time you touch/brush your hair there is a burst/re-relase of oil, ensuring a long lasting shine! This can be used on wet or dry hair. I personally love using it to define waves after setting them with a barrel iron. Paul Mitchell also has an entire cruelty free color line which I have been switching over to in my salon.
I hope this post is helpful in your journey to cruelty free, kinder hair care! Its a very confusing, long winded process, so if anyone has any suggestions for vegan/cruelty free hair care, Id love to hear!
